On Sunday, October 27th, a group of 5th and 6th graders and various EAB teachers and parents participated in the 5K Corrida Insana in Brasilia as a community building activity for the club Go Girls.

On October 22, the iCommons invited 4th grade Portuguese/History and Geography and PLL students to talk to the Brazilian paleontologist and professor at the University of São Paulo, Dr. Luiz Anelli. Dr. Anelli is the author 12 books about dinosaurs for children, including the book "Dinos do Brasil" (Dinos from Brazil), available in the LS iCommons.

It is hard to imagine, but Family Conferences for the Lower School are right around the corner! These are terrific opportunities for families to engage in collaborative conversations with teachers. During these conferences, families will hear about their child’s progress both academically and social-emotionally.

Two students from each homeroom in fourth and fifth grades were selected by their peers to represent their Lower School community as Service Ambassadors. The Lower School Service Ambassadors this semester are Vivianne Schmitt and Giovanna Pizzi Modesto from 5A, Fatima Yousaf and Otavio Machado Silveira from 5B, Catalina Kimsey and Rafael Sergio Botelho from 4A, and Valentina Leite Faria and Chloe Fuga from 4B.

On Sunday, December 2nd, a group of thirteen 5th and 6th graders and five teachers participated in the 5K Corrida Insana in Brasilia as a culminating end of the semester activity for the club, Go Girls. The club is a physical activity-based, after-school program for girls in 5th or 6th grade.

This semester the Lower School team has joined forces across different subjects, such as Science, Music, Art to reflect on one of our most precious resources: Water. During this first semester, students have embarked on a journey of reflection and action. They have created songs about the theme, they have made musical instruments out of recyclable materials, they have carried out scientific experiments with our phenomenal EAB staff.

Musicians Inspiring Scientists is a semester-long project that aims to foster wonder, curiosity, and love for our planet through meaningful music and exciting, authentic, thought-provoking scientific investigations.

The LS iCommons will start to re-organize its Fiction collection on April 26. It means changing the collection physical organization, from levels to alphabetical order by the author's last name, just like the US iCommons. Until the work is finished, the LS iCommons will be closed every Thursday from April 26.

As an Early Childhood Program, we are very concerned with the number of students who are entering the classroom late. We need to remind you that your lateness causes disruption not only to your child but to the other students in the classroom. Being late to school has a negative effect on your child's academic performance, social experiences and the attention to routines. We are asking that you PLEASE have your child here on time at 8:00 A.M. and 9:00 am on late start Wednesdays!

Our young artists would like to invite you to see their artwork. They worked as illustrators for the music CD. Our exhibit will feature art from class K3 through 5th grade and be displayed in the Hall of Flags starting Monday, December 4th until Tuesday, December 12th.

Dear LS EAB Community, We wanted to thank you all for your support regarding our limited seats for our Grade 1-5 Holiday Show on December 9, 2017! We know that this has created some discomfort among families but we feel more appreciation for having a safe environment for our young presenters. After much discussion with community members of the Lower School, we would like to inform you that we will only allow infants/children of 0 to 24 months to sit on laps. Children 2 years old and up will require a ticket for a seat. Again, we appreciate your support as we align ourselves in offering a safe environment for our performances!

Thus, what students experienced yesterday through the Project ''Musicians Inspiring Musicians'' encapsulates not only all the elements of the Music Curriculum mentioned above, but also the richness of our Brazilian culture. Yesterday all Lower School students embarked on a special musical journey to get to know more about themselves, their friends, their teachers and our most treasured traditions and folklore.

Teachers of students in Grades 1-5 will begin assessing student’s reading abilities with the testing instrument Fountas & Pinnell Assessment System. This is an individualized assessment that allows students to read aloud while the teacher observes their reading fluency and observes their reading strategies.

The EAB Talent Show is an event that provides the opportunity for students to perform their talents that are not usually explored inside the classrooms. An opportunity for students to give us a glimpse of what they are capable and passionate about. The event will act as a helping hand, a fundraiser for the Senior Class prom.

We are grateful to have Maggie Moon with us at EAB from August 14-18! Maggie Moon is the Literacy Liaison and Coach at The School at Columbia University. Before working there, she was a 3rd and 4th grade teacher in the New York City (NYC) Public School System, and then became a Senior Staff Developer for The Reading and Writing Project, at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Dear Parents, We are excited to announce a short-term music experience for our LS students. The funds for this project come from the FSA Grant- Former PTO. This semester each grade level will have music workshops with professional musicians from Brasilia. Not only will these musicians bring their music expertise, but also a flavour of our brazilian culture as well as the message of sustainability and inclusion. The end of the school year is in sight. It has been a very exciting, busy and fun-filled school year. Starting the new school year seems like just yesterday. So much has gone on in just one school year. Our teachers, staff and students have been so active in making this year a strong academic and social year for each other. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this team and for how all the families have welcomed me into such a wonderful community. I want you to know that your children have been in good hands.

This room is located towards the front of the school, close to the outdoor basketball courts. Please ask Security or any staff person for assistance with locating this room.
