Boston University among a growing number of colleges to change SAT and ACT requirements

Boston University (BU) no longer requires the SAT or ACT for students who are enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme overseas, regardless of citizenship. According to an email sent to international schools by BU admissions, the rigor and quality of the IB Diploma program has long-been proven by the continued success of their IB Diploma students. If test scores are not submitted, the BU Board of Admissions would like to see students’ predicted grades.

While an SAT or ACT score is no longer a requirement for admission to BU, standardized test scores may be included in a student’s application if they feel they reflect their academic ability. Please note if a student is applying for the Boston University Trustee Scholarship, an SAT or ACT score is still required. For more information about BU, contact intadmis@bu.edu.

BU is among a growing number of US universities that are changing their SAT and ACT requirements. The University of Chicago dropped it’s SAT and ACT requirements this summer. While most colleges do not require the essay portion of the SAT or ACT, a few dozen more selective schools do. However, even that is changing as other universities have dropped their requirements for the essay portion of the exams.
