EU students at UK universities entering in 2019 will pay domestic fees. But will this apply to EU students living overseas?

EU students entering universities England, Scotland and Wales in 2019 will continue to pay the same fees as local students and their access to support will not change. This will last for the duration of their degree course, according to the BBC. The Scottish government announced that EU students entering Scottish universities in 2019 will continue to pay no fees for the duration of their courses, continuing with a commitment that had already been in place.

But will this apply to EU students who are living overseas, like many at EAB? Determining your residency status can be tricky. According to the University of Warwick, “to an extent, it is assessed on a case-by-case basis, with the University taking into account a number of factors which may or may not make the student eligible for home fees. It does also vary from university to university, rather than it being a blanket government-imposed policy”. It is suggested that you contact the universities you are applying to directly to understand how they decide whether or not you will receive the same fees as local students.

Another useful resource is the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA),which is a respected body serving the interests of international students in the UK. It is important that you take the time to research the universities you are applying to carefully in order to be sure what expenses you will be responsible for before you enroll.
