Rafael Dias

A passionate linguist and educator at EAB, whose path to becoming a polyglot has been shaped by curiosity, challenges, and a deep appreciation for languages. In his talk, he will explore how language learning is far more than memorizing vocabulary — it’s a transformative experience that reshapes how we connect, think, and thrive in a globalized world. Through insights from Linguistics and his own experiences, he reveals how mastering multiple languages can expand our cognitive horizons, deepen our empathy, and unlock more meaningful interactions across different cultures. With a unique blend of personal stories and professional insights, Rafael invites us to see language not just as a tool, but as a bridge to a more connected world.

Mark Shaw

Project manager, U.S. Army veteran, and a proud EAB alumnus. His global journey has taken him from a diplomatic childhood, to military deployments, and to global trade shows. Now based in Texas, Mark is returning to Brasília to share his reflections on the role of language in inspiring change. In his talk, he explores how learning a new language is more than acquiring a skill — it's an act of empathy, courage, and connection. Drawing from personal stories of regret, rediscovery, and resilience, Mark invites us to consider how multilingualism can unlock not only new relationships, but also new versions of ourselves.

Sabrina Azevedo

Former lawyer and for 9 years a high-performance leadership trainer and EAB parent, dedicated to helping people unlock their natural potential. In her talk, she explores how discovering and strengthening our unique talents can lead to greater confidence, performance, and purpose—reminding us that true change begins when we embrace who we truly are.

Fayola Garner

Passionate science educator, EAB alumna, and lifelong learner whose curiosity about how the world works has shaped both her teaching and her journey. Coming from the United States to share her talk at TEDxEABYouth, Fayola draws on her background as a science educator to offer a powerful reflection on change — in nature and in ourselves. Blending scientific insight with personal experience, she invites us to look deeper at the forces that shape who we become and to discover what it truly means to “weather” transformation.

Isabela de Sousa

Senior student at the American School of Brasília whose curiosity about people and purpose has shaped her reflections on what it truly means to succeed. In her talk, “What If We’ve Been Measuring Success Wrong?”, Isabela explores how modern culture’s obsession with achievement, independence, and comparison has redefined our sense of worth — and at what cost. Drawing from her own experiences navigating the pressures of high school and the pursuit of “perfection,” she challenges us to rethink success beyond grades, titles, and recognition, and to see it instead through connection, contribution, and balance.

Fernanda Qiu

Senior student at EAB, who will share a powerful reflection on how cultural legacy and family sacrifice shaped her understanding of success. As the daughter of first-generation Chinese immigrants, Fernanda draws from her experience of leaving home at 17 to pursue academic opportunities, challenging the myth of the “self-made” individual and offering an intergenerational perspective on resilience and leadership. Her talk invites us to rethink what it truly means to honor the past while building a better future.

Roberto Miyamoto

Educator, environmental advocate, and lifelong learner whose curiosity about how systems work — from ecosystems to classrooms — has shaped his approach to teaching and leadership. An EAB faculty member, Roberto brings to the TEDxEABYouth stage his talk “Maybe You Don’t Need to Be Inspired to Inspire,” a reflection on accountability, action, and the quiet ways change begins. Drawing from his journey as an environmental steward and mentor, he invites us to rethink inspiration — not as a spark we wait for, but as something we build through responsibility and care for the world around us.

Work in Progress

Improv group composed of talented students mentored by Mr. Schulz, our Upper School Drama teacher. Through spontaneous and unscripted performances, they explore themes of connection, creativity, and transformation—capturing the spirit of Inspiring Change. Their work reminds us of the power of storytelling and imagination to foster empathy, spark dialogue, and inspire meaningful change in our lives and communities.

Musical Honors Ensemble

The Nocturnals

A musical group composed of talented EAB students, The Nocturnals will take the stage to showcase their musical learning and creativity. Guided by their teachers, they will present a lively and engaging performance that highlights the skills they’ve developed at EAB while entertaining the audience with rhythm, harmony, and passion. Their performance is a celebration of collaboration, artistic expression, and the joy of making music together.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcastsshort video seriesanimated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future.
