Calling for Candy Donations!
PTO

Hello Parents!

Halloween is right around the corner! We are excited with our upcoming LS Halloween Parade, which will be followed by trick-or-treating! Students will have various stops at the school offices, where they will be given treats!

We would kindly like to ask for your help with the candy donations. We have made available two decorated boxes at the front gate and at the back gate where sweets can be left. Please, make sure to donate ONLY soft chewable candy. Some examples are Sete Belo, Balas Fini, Lua cheia, Jujuba, etc. Since we are a nut-free school, chocolates and paçoca are not allowed. We are also staying away from lollipops in order to avoid any choking hazards.

We appreciate your contributions. Looking forward to a scary and haunted Halloween!

Welcome to the PTO
Parent-Teacher Organization

The PTO would like to welcome all families to our 2022-2023 school year. A special and warm welcome to all the new arriving families! We are delighted to have you at EAB and we count on your support to make this a great and memorable year!

This year we will start with an important change that many of you might have noticed already. We are no longer using the FSP initials (Family School Partnership). From now on, we will use PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). Although we continue to be  a partnership between family and school, we would like to keep a more familiar and standardized name that is also internationally recognized. It will be easier for everyone to understand our role and duty at EAB.

We would also like to invite all of you to visit the PTO table at the Welcome BBQ, this Saturday, August 6th. You will have the opportunity to meet us in person and, for those interested, to volunteer for PTO positions and committees.

We are looking forward to partnering with all of you during the school year to bind and strengthen our community. It will be our pleasure to meet you all!

See you soon!

Parent-Teacher Organization

Thank you parents for your contributions to our Teacher’s & Staff special breakfast and gifts. It was a success, teachers really enjoyed it.

They were able to spend some time on Wednesday morning enjoying the special breakfast and also all the messages that were written to them by EAB students and families. A tree with hanging notes and messages full of love and acknowledgement decorated this special event prepared to thank and honor our amazing teachers and staff.

FSP would like to thank all the parents that contributed with money donations and  messages, as well as all the volunteers involved to make this nice moment possible. Parents donated R650 which helped pay for the breakfast and gifts.

The Family & School Partnership (FSP) and admissions office welcomed 12 new families to the EAB community on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

FSP President, Xaviera Gutierrez and Noela Xavier, Admissions Director, hosted new families at an informal breakfast at the school. The families came from many different countries, ranging from Brazil to Canada to Sweden to South Korea to the United States. Parents and children were able to chat and get to know each other, eat and play as well as express interest in signing up as volunteers for future FSP activities.

The Family & School Partnership (FSP) is the parent association at EAB. Our vision is to inspire families to partner in the education of their children and connect EAB families with each other and the school to create a strong community of lifelong learners. We welcome the participation of all parents and guardians, so sign up or email us at fsp@eabdf.br to get involved!

FSP Valentines Fundraiser came to a close Monday the 14th when parent volunteers spread the love with candy and flowers!

We must say it was a success, with a few hiccups along the way, kids and administrators alike enjoyed some loving notes from students, peers, parents, and coworkers! We received a great turnout from the table sales, and our room parents did a fantastic job pulling classrooms together to get grams for all! Billy the Bull was our greatest hit and sold out within the first two days!!

Thank you so much to all those who volunteered and worked tirelessly to make it a special event for all of EAB!

FSP

Parent-Teacher Organization

Dear Parents

First off, a big thanks to all of you who supported and helped the FSP last semester. We are planning some fun events for this new semester, so stay tuned!

Right now, we desperately need some help filling the following positions on our parent board:

FSP Secretary and three committed volunteers for our Parent Ambassador Group.

  • FSP Secretary: The Secretary’s requirements are very manageable! As Secretary, one would help schedule the monthly board meetings, take meeting minutes, check the FSP email frequently, and help organize FSP events. Most of our board members work full time, so we meet via Zoom, and during the lunch hour. Expect to commit about 2 to 5 hours per week to this role.
  • Parent Ambassador Group: For this group, we need at least three dedicated volunteers to pair new incoming families with EAB volunteer “Buddy Families”. The PAG is an organization under the FSP whose mission is to help new families feel welcome, to connect them with other EAB families, and to help them get to know and understand the school and life in Brasilia. It would be wonderful to have this group up and running by the Fall of 2022.

Please send an email to fsp@eabdf.br if you would like to participate in any of the above roles. Thank you!

Parent-Teacher Organization

Dear EAB families,

Sunday, November 14th was our first New Families Event. The event was a success! We paired up new families with existing EAB families and they enjoyed an in-person meet and greet at the Marieta Cafe in Asa Sul. We have been working diligently on this initiative since August and we are so happy to share with you the result of many months of hard work.

We are looking forward to having more of these get-togethers since one of our core values at FSP is to build community in our school. If you would like to participate as an EAB "old family" to support our incoming new families to our community, please reach out to our Parent Ambassador Group, pag@eabdf.br.

Thank you for your partnership!

Parent-Teacher Organization

Dear EAB Families,

Family and School Partnership would like to extend our deepest gratitude for each of your contributions. Teacher’s Day Breakfast was a success, and we could not have done it without YOU! For the event, FSP set a goal to raise R$3618. We collected R$3528 in donations. We were blown away by the support we received.

With your donations, FSP was able to provide a beautiful breakfast and a gift to each of our 110 amazing and dedicated teaching staff members. With the help of Cynthia Lee and our School Principals, we were also able to coordinate message boards. Students were given the opportunity to leave nice messages for their teachers.

Thank you to our wonderful community for the monetary donations. And thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted with collecting cash donations, helped assemble the gifts, and for those who helped out during the breakfast.

Family and School Partnership hosted a T-shirt Design Contest for the Senior class of 2022. Four original designs were submitted. Each Senior was given the opportunity to cast their vote. The winning design was submitted by Alisha Kenny.

On behalf of FSP and EAB each Senior will be receiving a FREE t-shirt with the winning design.

Congratulations Alisha!!

The FSP (Family & School Partnership) has some exciting news for the upcoming school year 2021-2022: we are creating a Buddy Family Program, and we need your help! We would like for our new families to be paired with an existing EAB family. This initiative is being designed to help new families with any questions they might have about the school, about life in Brasilia, and to assist them in connecting with our wonderful community. Please consider signing up to be a Buddy Family volunteer!

Below you will find the expectations of a Buddy Family volunteer. If you are interested in the program, or if you have any questions, feel free to email us at: fsp@eabdf.br

Expectations of a Buddy Family Volunteer:

  • Once you are assigned to an incoming family, we ask that you reach out via WhatsApp to introduce yourself and your family.
  • If the family is new to Brasilia, offer to answer questions they might have about the area.
  • The goal is to be a resource and support for any questions your incoming family might have as they transition into Brasilia and EAB.
  • As a volunteer family, you have no financial obligation to your incoming family.
  • You can meet with your incoming family as you choose:
    • In-person, zoom, lunch, coffee, and so on.
    • Taking into consideration the pandemic in Brazil, we advise that you proceed in whatever manner feels the most comfortable to you, and to your incoming family.
  • The expectation is for one semester but can continue for however long you both choose.
Parent-Teacher Organization

The FSP (Family & School Partnership) is the parent organization at EAB composed of volunteer and collaborative parents whose mission is to promote a partnership between all EAB families and the school. The FSP Executive Board, recently elected for the upcoming school year 2021-2022, are:

Our purpose is to strengthen the EAB community and foster a sense of unity among students, parents, teachers, and staff in support of the school's mission. We aim to:

Now is the time for EAB to refresh our FSP organization for the rest of this school year and on into the 2021-22 school year.

The school's Family School Partnership (aka PTO or PTA) serves a very important role here at EAB. This is a group of parents whose role is to facilitate a partnership between all EAB families and the school. It is an organization of parents who are guided by the principles that family involvement supports lifelong learning and ensures whole child education, and that collaboration between school and home raises academic achievement.

Some ways FSP supports the EAB community: Welcome New Families, Fundraisers, Holiday Activities, Staff Appreciation, End of Year Celebrations, and so much more!

Parents can offer to support the FSP in one of three ways:

  • Serve as a FSP Executive:

    • President: Lead monthly FSP meetings, Liaison between FSP and EAB Administration to coordinate events and activities

    • Vice-President: Takes a supporting role to FSP President

    • Secretary: Schedule meetings, records meeting notes, answers correspondence, maintains documents

    • Treasurer: Manages FSP Funds

    • Lower School representative: Collaborates with Room Parents with focus on LS events and fundraising

    • Upper School representative: Collaborates with FSP with focus on US events and fundraising

  • Offer to be a Room Parent (Lower School Only):

    • Room parents work alongside the specific Lower School Classroom teacher, as a communication link between the teacher and parents of that particular class. They also communicate directly with the FSP Executive regarding activities involving the Lower School

  • Be a Friend of the FSP (Volunteer):

    • These are parents who don't necessarily want to be on the FSP Executive, but are happy to be called on as a helper for a specific school organized event

The expectation for Executives and Room Parents is to serve 1 year terms from August to June.

Please click here to sign up for any of the above options.

Last week you may have noticed something new showing up on our calendar: the Readers’ Theater! The Readers’ Theater project, ReAct (Read + Act), is one of our 2018-2019 FSP Teacher Grant Program winners, submitted by our librarian, Karla Veras. The project encompasses literature, theater, and education by using the “Readers’ Theater” technique (RT) which combines reading practice and performance. Its goal is to enhance reading skills and confidence through practice and will benefit students from 3rd to 8th grade.

ReAct is one of many projects selected to receive FSP sponsorship. As these projects begin to be implemented, we will be sure to tell you all about them here!

The purpose of the FSP Teacher Grant Program is to provide support to EAB faculty by offering funding for special projects that inspire creativity and enthusiasm through new and unique learning experiences when other funds are not available. This program encourages applicants to think "outside the box" so that interesting new learning ideas and experiences can be offered to our children.

Any EAB faculty member can apply for an FSP Grant as long as the proposed project is aligned with EAB's mission of being "bold in vision" and focuses on one or more of the five pillars of EAB's foundation of learning: academics, activities, arts, leadership, and service learning. Applications for the program are accepted every year on dates announced in advance by the FSP.
