A Week of Literacy Growth at EAB
Beth Overby | Lower School Principal

This week, our Lower School had the privilege of hosting Rossie Apt, a literacy consultant from Erin Kent Consulting, for an enriching week focused on best practices in reading instruction. Rossie collaborated with our faculty in a series of interactive workshops, in which we discussed and engaged with the latest research on literacy development, assessment practices, and impactful teaching strategies.

Some highlights of the week were the hands-on learning experiences Rossie facilitated through demo labs and coaching sessions. Teachers observed her model best practices in real classrooms, with pre-brief and debrief discussions to analyze instructional moves and student learning. Additionally, faculty engaged in coaching labs, refining their teaching through guided practice and feedback. These immersive experiences empowered our educators to implement high-impact strategies with confidence and intentionality.

Beyond working with faculty, Rossie led a whole-school Teachers Teaching Teachers (TTT) session, fostering collaboration and shared learning across grade levels. She also connected with our parent community through a Parent Coffee session, providing valuable insights on supporting reading at home. Throughout the week, this opportunity provided insights for our community to strengthen our collective understanding and shared language of how to support students in becoming confident and capable readers.
