Celebrating Education and Charting New Paths
Isabel Moraes | IB Coordinator

Today, as we celebrate the International Day of Education, we are reminded of the power of learning to transform lives and communities. Education equips us not only with knowledge and skills but also with the values and perspectives needed to create a better world. At the American School of Brasília, our mission to inspire learners to be inquisitive in life, principled in character, and bold in vision aligns perfectly with this global celebration of education.

In the spirit of empowering our students to take ownership of their learning journeys, we hosted the IB Course Selection Fair on January 21. This event marked an important milestone for our Grade 10 students as they begin planning their pathways in the IB Diploma Programme. Prior to the fair, students and parents attended an IB Information Night, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and deepen their understanding of the IBDP. With the support of their families, they engaged with teachers, explored course offerings, and gained insights into the rigorous and rewarding experience of the DP. By asking thoughtful questions and reflecting on their aspirations, these students exemplified the values of curiosity and agency that are at the heart of both the IB and our school community.

As we reflect on the significance of education this week, we celebrate our Grade 10 students’ commitment to shaping their futures and commend our IB teachers for their dedication to fostering a love of learning. Together, we honor the transformative power of education and look forward to the many ways our students will positively impact the world through their studies and actions.
