Grade 7 Students Learn About Migration
Darcy Compton | MS Humanities Teacher

On September 13th, MS Humanities students welcomed Mr. Jose Gutierrez, a Venezuelan engineer who volunteers his time to help refugees who have relocated to Brasilia.  He came to campus to talk about the global issue of migration to bring the subject closer to home for our students.

Seventh graders have been learning about the push and pull factors that influence families and individuals to move from one place to another, including voluntary migration versus forced migration, as in the case of refugees.  Students conducted research in groups, read novels with the theme of migration, and brought their ideas to life through hands-on activities. As a project to apply their knowledge, 7th Grade Humanities students created their own interactive games that teach their peers and other visiting students about migration.
