Senior Spotlight: Diogo Matos

In the final weeks leading up to Graduation Day 2020, EAB will celebrate each of its Seniors via the Senior Spotlight.  Though many of the Senior Traditions cannot happen this year, the High School Faculty is committed to making sure each member of the Class of 2020 knows how much they have meant to this school and how proud we are of them.  Today, the Senior in the spotlight is Diogo Matos.

A proud “Bull” since the age of five, Diogo mentions in his own self-reflection that he is most proud of the development of his own character transforming himself, in his own words, from “a kid, who for the most part, didn’t want…to do anything” to “a young adult who is more determined than he was before,” and he is surely right to do so. All of us at EAB would agree that Diogo has grown into an impressive, thoughtful person, his dedication and effort demonstrated in his commitment on and off the basketball court. A superb athlete, what he will most remember about his time here is“my game winning buzzer-beater shot at NR. Overtime, semifinals on the line, 65-64 EARJ, with 7 seconds left, and I get the ball and score.” Popular with both staff and fellow students alike, what Diogo will most miss at EAB, he states, is “the people that we can’t find anywhere else in the world. I am glad I got to meet my friends, and I am glad that some of these friendships will last long.”

His teachers are united in their praise of Diogo’s achievements, the word “growth” being the most frequently employed word in their thinking about him, his English teacher stating unequivocally that he is “so proud of how much” Diogo grew “as a student, a player, and a person.” His PE teacher likewise, refers to his athletic abilities and his being “a friend to all no matter the situation or time.” Finally, his Brazilian Studies teacher identifies Diogo as one who “is always respectful and polite” and alludes to her joy in seeing “how much you have grown.”

Diogo would most like to thank“my parents for always being on my side, helping me,” his“teachers, coaches and staff” for their unwavering support and “my friends for always being there for me and allowing me to have the great time that I had.”

Following a GAP year, he will be taking up a place at the University of Tampa where they have also offered him a basketball tryout. We wish all the very best with this and with whatever new paths you choose to forge for yourself, Diogo. We remain very proud of all that you have accomplished and have become!

Senior Spotlight 2020
Senior Spotlight: Erick Martins
May 27, 2020
Erick has been a proud member of the EAB Community for the past twelve years. We have watched him grow into a strong and mature man, who can face the challenges that life brings with honesty, grace and dignity. Erick's relationships with teachers and teaching assistants have always been excellent. His favourite memory is of Ms Isabel, who paid him some home visits after his surgery, to tell him she missed his bad jokes. Erick is a great friend; he feels proud of "the people he made friends with" during his years at EAB.
Senior Spotlight: Eduardo Estrella de Queiroz
May 27, 2020
Eduardo has been a proud Bull since arriving on campus in second grade. A keen sportsman, he has enjoyed many successes on the football field. He says his favourite memories will be "all the soccer memories". He demonstrated leadership skills on and off the pitch. His contributions to leading EduArtes was always appreciated by the student-teachers, Ms Bree and the learners. His competitive nature drove others to be better.
Senior Spotlight: Luiz Carvalho
May 27, 2020
Luiz has been a proud and dedicated Bull for the past 13 years. He is part of the fabric of EAB, known and respected by the community for his determination and resilience. Luiz is most proud of how his "hard work was recognised" by his peers and teachers. As Ms Teresa says, "over the years, he has become more and more aware of the opportunity that was in his hands and became a hard working, responsible student".
Senior Spotlight: Luiza Boiteux
May 27, 2020
Arriving on campus in tenth grade, Luiza has had a tremendously positive impact on the community ever since. Indeed, there is not an activity, or event, at the school that has not benefited from Luiza’s involvement in it: from her organization and promotion of fundraisers for her various service commitments, including her work for Crèche Primavera, to her role as Creative Director of the school’s newspaper, the “Bullseye”, to her membership of the National Honor Society, Luiza has graced us with her compassionate presence.
Senior Spotlight: McArthur Di Andrade Camargo Filho
May 26, 2020
There is no-one who knows the school better, or who has better contributed to it, than McArthur, having joined EAB at the age of three and spending his entire academic life here. From the now legendary performances at the annual “Moth” spoken story event, to his community service work and his organization of the band festival EAB AMP intending, in his own words, to “unite all through the power of music,” McArthur has been tireless in his involvement in school-related activities.
