In the final weeks leading up to Graduation Day 2021, EAB will celebrate each of its Seniors via the Senior Spotlight. Though many of the Senior Traditions cannot happen this year, the High School Faculty is committed to making sure each member of the Class of 2021 knows how much they have meant to this school and how proud we are of them. Today, the Senior in the spotlight is Maria Laura Posada. Maria has been a proud member of the Bulls Community for the past four years.
Though just joining us four years ago, Maria Laura, or "Mala" as she is affectionately known to her friends, has made a huge impact on the school, involving herself in many aspects of it in addition to the rigors of her studies in the IB program. Amongst these is her participation in sports, this being one of her favorite memories of her time here, especially "pep rallies right before NR where everyone is screaming in the gym and excited for the upcoming tournament."
Although missing going onto the school campus every day, Mala is most proud of how she's grown personally, maturely reflecting how all types of "experience help us into being better people depending on how we react to, and accept, them. Most of these have had a great impact on me and changed me completely."
Her teachers, too, are unanimous in their praise of Mala's positive energy and good grace, many, like her Portuguese teacher, alluding to "her affectionate nature" and her Brazilian Studies teacher referring to the pleasure it has been having her in class. Mala, she tells us, "was always the first one to speak up" for the needs of the class, invariably "concerned about us and her fellow students." Her English teacher speaks for the entire staff when he writes that "it is Mala's kindness and generosity of spirit, her magnanimity" that most strongly comes across about her.
Ever thoughtful and considerate of others, Mala gives special thanks to her "friends for making my time at EAB much funnier and happier" and for "giving me the best memories ever," especially "the senior class of 2021" for their resilience during these challenging times. Mala would also like to thank her "amazing teachers," reserving special praise for Mr Oliveira for always being so understanding. She also singles out Ms. Leishear for her steadfast support and Dr. Sieve for her unending patience, "making everything possible." Last but not least, Mala thanks her cheer coaches for "always motivating me to continue to try hard" and "my wonderful team that has turned into a family." Of course, no thank you list would be complete without gratitude towards those who deserve it most. Mala alludes with great fondness to her parents and her appreciation of them "for always being there for me and supporting me with so much love."
Following school, Mala intends to take a GAP year, something typical of her courage and adventurous spirit, returning to complete the cursinho and vestibular as preparation to study Psychology here in Brazil. Rest assured that as you embark on this new chapter of your life, Mala, you will be greatly missed by us all here at EAB.
